Fixed Wing Microlights Published date: July 23, 2013
  • Country: United Kingdom

I've been in this syndicate for over three years now and have had a great time using this aeroplane. Its based in its own T-hangar at Farley Farm near Winchester. There are no landing fees and the strip is 680m on top of a chalk hill, so the drainage is excellent, providing a usable grass strip all year round.
The monthly cost is £45, and hourly it is £35. Our hourly charge has gone down as well as up, according to the state of our bank account, and was as low as £20/hr quite recently.

Anyway, our group funds are around the £5k mark and our engine was zero timed in 2011, and has since done about 200 hours out of a 1500 hour TBO.

G-JABS is registered as a microlight, so you can fly this on an NPPL(M), NPPL(SSEA) & PPL with only conversion to type training. I carried out my training with Ray Proost of the Shadow Flight Centre at Old Sarum, and was signed off in under 45 minutes training.

The group does all its own maintenance, led and overseen by the gentleman who built the aeroplane in the first place. This keeps costs right down. We also have an inspector based at Farley Farm so permit renewals are always very quickly turned around.

In all the time I've been in the syndicate, there have been no cash calls, and the prudent financial management of our treasurer will ensure it stays that way.

Availability is excellent, and I regularly take the aeroplane away for trips both abroad and in the uk, for anything up to a week at a time. I have even flown her to the Dordogne, and Cherbourg is only an hour from base. You can also pretend to be a group A machine when required to get into places that normally don't welcome microlights.

She is fast, able to cruise at 90 knots, with a top speed straight and level of about 111 knots. Even so, she'll get into and out of a 300m strip at max weight easily. I also campaigned her in some of the Royal Aero Club air races last year, and managed second place in the King's Cup, as well as highest championship finishing home-built, beating some pretty lovely Vans RVs.

I'm only selling as I want something that I can legally turn upside-down.

I'm very happy to demonstrate G-JABS to seriously interested parties. I'll expect a contribution towards costs, and proof of actually having a license. This is just to weed out the Walter Mittys.

Please call me on 07765 019827 to arrange.

I'll upload some photos shortly, but in the meantime, please check out this video at the top of the ad.
