The Bailey Quattro ParaTrike (bought new in January 2009) is an ideal introduction to ultra-light aviation. Paratrikes are especially suited to older pilots who might have difficulty with the weight of a foot-launched paramotor. The paratrike would be an ideal Christmas present for the person who "always wanted to fly".

Licensed paramotor pilots or microlight pilots will have no difficulty in converting to paratrike flying. Novices will need to undergo comprehensive flight training in order to achieve the required sports aviation licence from their local aviation authority (full details available). Note that my Dudek Synthesis wing is green (and not yellow as in the images).

My 175cc Bailey Quattro ParaTrike has only 12 hours on it. It come complete with a dedicated Apco reserve (mounted behind the pilot's head). It has a 22-litre fuel tank built into the seat which enables long distance flights. The engine outputs 18HP which provides 60kg of thrust (see Bailey website). It has all the benefits of the Bailey 4-stroke petrol engine – great reliability, low noise, low vibration and excellent fuel economy. Full technical specs at http://www.baileyaviation.com/trike.htm (this is the newer 180cc model). My special price is only €2,950 (£2,295) for the trike, trailer and reserve (excluding the wing – see below). I tow it on a customised light Erde CH541 motorbike trailer to save the 30mins or so it takes to assemble it before flying. When I dismantle the Quattro it fits into the back of my Pajero.

The wing is dedicated Dudek Synthesis 34 reflex wing for paramotors or paratrikes. The Synthesis has the same 12 hours up and if I sell the Quattro my price on the wing alone is €2,450 (or £1,950) - it's in perfect condition. Full technical specs at www.dudek.eu/en/paramotor-ppg/synthesis.html and you will note that it is both stable and fast. Its trim speed is about 44km/hr and it has a wide range from about 23km/hr minimum up to its maximum speed of 61km/hr. It's all-up weight range is 135kg to 165kg.

The paratrike can be comfortably flown from any decently large field facing into wind and without high trees at the boundary. The landing is exceptionally easy. In the air it is amazingly manoeuvrable – especially at speed when you use the tip-steering feature.

The combined price for the Bailey Quattro ParaTrike and the Dudek Synthesis is €4,950 (or £3,995). The price includes delivery in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland or delivery to a UK west coast ferry-port e.g. Holyhead, Stranraer or Fishguard.
